THRIFTY TRAVELS: The Footwear Dilemma (DEBATING CROCS-SEND HELP)

Hellooo!
As some of you may know I'm planning on going travelling over the next few months, nothing is set in stone yet and I'm sure the locations are subject to change as it is travelling on a shoestring!
Which brings me to my next point. Shoes.
I love shoes but I think my age is starting to come through, my love for granny-chic is winning over beautiful yet impractical shoes!

For travelling, I need something;
-Comfortable
-Lightweight
-Supportive
-Durable
-Non-leather
-That goes with a variety of outfits
-But still has a stylish edge to it...
-...Yeah and I don't want to spend lots of money obvsss.

I think it's a pretty big ask but I have found a few brands/pairs that look like they are up to the test!
As I'll only be taking hand luggage, I can realistically take two pairs of shoes, one on my feet and one in the bag at a push three if they're super lightweight and space-saving.

Let's have a moment of honesty. I keep stealing my stepdad's Karrimor velcro sandals in the morning when I nip outside to feed the dogs and omg are they comfy! I'm sure the sleepy, rural village that I live in will not judge me for dad sandals and fluffy pink bed socks :)

They're ideal but they just don't look right with any of my clothes haha, I need something a little more stylish...

1)Teva Orange Flatform Sandals (here)
Truth be told, I already have these with me in my caravan but I got sent the wrong size and they don't have my size in stock anymore. I'm wondering if half a size too small is really a big deal but I love them so much I can't bare to send them away haha. They do make me a good 6 foot high and probably aren't that practical but they look ace.

2)Dr Martens Belfour Sandals (here)
Again sizing is an issue with these bad boys. I've tried on a size 7-too small and the shop didn't stock an 8! waaah #bigfootproblems. They are really durable with a sole that could withstand many hours walking. They don't look too 'dads walking sandals' and you get the Dr Martens quality.

3) Crocs 'Sexi-Flip' Leopard Flip Flops (here)
GUYS THESE ARE CROCS AND I ACTUALLY LIKE THEM! breathe...okay.
I like the design of these flip flops as they are minimalist yet they are leopard print. Everyone on this planet knows that Crocs are super-comfortable but usually they don't come into the equation when you fancy a stylish bit of footwear.

4) Skechers Sunday Stroll Shoes (here)
Hmm, I've never actually seen these shoes in real life so I don't know if they'll fit how I imagine. My good buddy works for Skechers and she says they look nice. My favourite thing about Skechers is the glorious, marshmallowy memory-foam insoles. I have a pair of the trainers already which I would take for travelling but they are really bright tie-dye pattern and don't go with a lot of my holiday outfits. They also have them in plain black but I like the bright colours weaved in without being too OTT.

5) Dr Martens Daytona Desert Boots (here)
Aww, my new shoe crush! If you've followed this blog for a while you will know that I love Dr Martens, heck I've already featured one pair in this list already. Anyway, I've had many over the years but since turning vegan my choices are more limited as most of them are made from leather. I absolutely love the desert boot style of the shoes AND they are velvet which is perfect for me! I thought I'd include a pair of boots as it might not be a sandal-wearing heat in all countries I plan to visit, especially with winter around the corner.

6) TOMS Del Rey Trainers (here)
I have never owned a pair of TOMS but whilst doing in-depth research for this post, 'most comfortable shoe for life' these guys came out on top. I definitely prefer the trainers style rather than the classic slip on/espadrille TOMS are famous for. Also, I like the 'one for one' campaign they are running. When you buy from them, they give a child in need a pair of shoes. I enjoy the snazzy black and white tribal pattern.

Which are the comfiest shoes you've ever owned? Do you have any other 'traveller' shoe recommendations?
Thanks for reading :)

Dream Wardrobe Building: BLACK BASICS WISHLIST

Hello :)
So I've decided that I am going to carry on my 'Dream Wardrobe Building' feature and the key to any capsule/working wardrobe is basics. I have a confession to make-I don't like 'basics' I find them well, you know, umm boring :|
Pretty much everything I own has a pattern or a motif or something to jazz it up a bit but honestly I do think this makes it difficult to have a workable wardrobe without going all 'clashing prints' every day of the week.
I'm trying to get myself excited by plain fabrics and timeless cuts so I have come up with a few wardrobe necessities that I am severely lacking in the clothing department.
I'd really love to have a capsule wardrobe of quality basics that will last for a long time but still look as amazing in 10 years as they do now!
Most style books I have read suggest 'a crisp white men's shirt' or a 'camel trench-coat', true they may be classic pieces but they don't really reflect my personal style.
So I've chosen black key pieces that I think will work season to season.

I've wanted a bowler-esque hat for ages. I think some high street ones can look quite cheap yet I didn't quite have £50+ to spend on the beautiful ones in my local vintage shop. H&m came to the rescue with this cute hat.
Fluffy jumpers are set to be a big deal this A/W but I think a classic, black angora jumper will be a wardrobe staple for years to come. I like the fact that it's cropped & when I'm wearing plain clothes I like using texture to add extra interest to a simple outfit.
Ohh the dream leather jacket. I love the style of Muubaa leather jackets as although they are timeless they have great details too. I really like the textured quilting on the shoulders & I'm always a fan of the asymmetric fastening. This is a real investment piece at £400 but it will last forever. I'm gutted as last year I saw a few Muubaa jackets in TKmaxx reduced to £150 but at the time I had no money, Here's hoping that they get some in stock this year too.
This Zara tee is perfect, over-sized yet structured. It would look great with a skinny long sleeve top underneath & could easily be dressed up or down. I don't actually own any proper basic t-shirts that I wear casually. All my black tops are mainly for work so nothing too exciting.
A high waist skater skirt would be a welcome addition to my wardrobe. I literally wear high waist things all the time now. Again to add a bit of something something I enjoy the black acid wash effect. Kinda grungy but the silhouette is a classic. It would look really cute with thick knit tights and boots.
These boots are beautiful! As most of you know I'm a big Dr Martens fan and it wouldn't be a wishlist without a new pair! I've had a couple of pairs of the furry lined boots before & they literally save my life in the winter. So cosy & practical. The boots I've had before have always had a suede outer and I find that they do get tatty quite quickly so I think a classic leather pair with the sheepskin lining will last a lot longer.

So there we have it. I may have accidentally bought the bowler hat already. I'm seriously lusting after the Dr Martens as the UK has completely missed autumn temperatures and it's wintery already-Why September?!

What are your favourite key pieces in your wardrobe?

P.S I've decided that I'm going to add a song at the bottom of each post from now on,. Either a song I can't stop playing or something that complements the topic I'm posting about :)

Obsessed: Mariel Dr Martens!

Hello Everyone!
So in my last post I featured these gorgeous Mariel Dr Martens that I needed in my life for work (& play). They are £90 on the Dr Martens website, which is not usually a price I would extend to for work shoes however I found the same pair on Blue Banana for £74.99 and then with a cheeky 10% discount code I wrangled them down to £67.50 which is more my kinda price! I don't mind 'investing' in Dr Martens because they are so well-made and never go out of fashion. I figured it's the same as me buying a few pairs of cheapy ballet shoes so hello justification!
Waaah so beautiful!
So much to my delight they came with both black bows AND pretty polka dot monochrome bows which are super-cute! They are pretty comfy and I wore them for a whole 7-hour shift at work as soon as they arrived. They are a lot heavier than ballet shoes (obviously) so that's taken a little getting used to, I'm gonna have strong ankles! I'm really pleased with them and I love how versatile they are :)

What do you think about Dr Martens? Do you usually hunt out discount codes online?

Outfit Of The Day: AUTUMN DAYS, WHEN THE GRASS IS JEWELLED

Army Jacket-Vintage
Scarf- Really old (16th birthday prezzie!)
Ruffle top-TKMaxx
Shorts-River Island
Socks-River Island
Boots-Dr Martens via TKMaxx

Autumn is here yaay! I love Autumn, super layers, halloween, bonfire night & my birthday :)
Anyway I wore this the other day. Most of the outfit is old apart from the top & lovely Dr Marten boots both from my trip to TKMaxx the other day.
I've said it once & i'll say it again, I really do not need to wear heels but when I spotted these, they were the only pair in the store and they were in my size-fate huh? Plus they were reduced from £100 to £29.99 BARGAIN! TKMaxx also had other styles of Dr Martens so you should check out your local store to see if they have any left. I love the oxblood leather and I can't wait til they look a bit more worn and battered.

Also I want to mention my love for this army jacket- its the real deal not some high street knock-off and the best part? It was only £1 from Preston flea market :)
Photos are taken in my mum's overgrown garden!

Whats your best TKMaxx bargain? What do you think of heeled DM's?
Thanks for reading :)
