This post goes under the 'better late than never' category. Before Christmas I went to visit Yew Tree Barn which is a place 'where art meets architectural antiques'. It is only a couple of miles away from my mum's house in the Lake District yet I'd never been!
Basically it is whimsy central-it's part reclamation yard/ part local artists gallery. When I visited they were holding a Christmas market so there were lots of local arts & crafts stalls too. Inside it was really busy but everywhere you looked was filled with all matter of beautiful antiques and furnishings. There was a whole room dedicated to doorknobs! If you are visiting the Lake District or it's not too far away for you, I'd urge everyone to have a little trip there. Have a moochy mooch around all the different rooms and have some of the amazing food in the cafe! I couldn't possibly capture all of it's beauty and charm otherwise it would've been a photo overload...

Cute Morrocan style lamp
Bright blue stove! (sneaky glimpse of doorknobs too)
Beams decorated with antlers and bunting :)
Rob Ryan collection in the gift shop
Jazz band playing carols!

Outside in the surrounding barns are hundreds of random weather-beaten statues and figurines. Some are actually terrifying but still interesting nonetheless! Kirstie Allsopp is always banging on about visiting your local reclamation yard for unusual finds for your home but how about...

A stags head for above the mantelpiece?
A slightly cross-eyed dog to guard your home?
A scary nun holding a cloth with a dead persons face on for the bedside table?
A naked rusty lady?
A zombie boy with no eyes and 'weathering' that look suspiciously like he has just eaten someones brains

Of course I do kid about the statues! If I had an endless budget I would love to adorn my home with unique bits and bobs from Yew Tree Barn. I could spend hours and hours there and hopefully I'm going to visit again soon when it's quieter so I can absorb more of the beauty!!

Have you been to a reclamation yard before? What do you think about them?
Thanks for reading :)
